DP1 is a 4 hr body of instruction touching on the basics for the 1st hour only.  It's not a "learn to shoot" course but instead the first level of how to protect yourself with a handgun.  Making a smooth safe draw from the holster and getting handgun play effeciently is a focus in this course.  Exposure to point, index, and aimed fire are covered with multiple rounds, multiple targets at reasonable distances.  Again this is not a learn how to shoot course, students must be competent safe shooters, able to slow fire reasonable groups. 

Equipment needed:  Ear and eye protection, handgun, holster (suggest regular belt non-collapsible holster vs. deep concealment type), 150-250 rounds of ammo, extra magazines or speed loaders (as many as you have), concealment garment.

DP2 is a 4 hr course of study building on the fundamentals learned from DP1.  Movement will be added, shooting from different positions, using cover, one hand and support hand shooting.  Use of flashlight while shooting will be covered.  An IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association) scenario shoot will round out the course.  This will let the student utilize all the skills learned in both DP1 and DP2 and experience competitive shooting.  

Equipment needed:  Ear and eye protection, handgun, holster (suggest regular belt non-collapsible holster vs. deep concealment type), 150-250 rounds of ammo, extra magazines or speed loaders (as many as you have), concealment garment.  Also bring a defensive type flashlight, one can be borrowed if needed.
